Annie Grant

Annie is a skilled traditional painter at Waralungku Arts - she likes to make paintings that preserve traditional stories and culture and record ceremony. She is also part of the team of busy arts workers who keep the art centre operating on a daily basis. Annie is a Warlmanpa woman, raised on Banka Banka Station. then later moving to Borroloola to marry and live in the local Marra camp. Annie has raised her family in Borroloola and is now part of her extended families in both Borroloola and Tennant Creek. Annie's meticulous attention to detail in her paintings comes from her upbringing in Warlmanpa  country where she learnt to paint alongside her sister and local elders. She was taught the cultural stories of her people and the symbolism that is used to tell those stories. In particular Annie likes to paint women's ceremonies. totems and cultural practices  which are unique to Warlmanpa women both now and in the dream-time.
